As society has become increasingly polarized, people have been left with little understanding or a sense of community. It has become clear to me that in our times, the polarization found throughout the country can relate back to the lost sense of community. Community is the sense of connection between people whether that is family, friends, & neighbors. Technology is slowly dividing these relationships leading to polarization throughout the nation. Without this sense of community many people can be left with a sense of anger or incompetence to understand people of different ethnic backgrounds, income, & stories. Therefore, to truly connect to our human need for connection and community. We need a way to understand, accept, and bridge the gap between our differences.
This project is meant to compile the stories of real people through interviews, who differ from one another whether that is ethnicity, income, ideals, politics, or location. These stories are important no matter the message found within, stories can save us, there is no stronger connection than words. By interviewing members of the community we can identify these stories and demonstrate our connections that cannot are not found on the surface. The similarities between farm life in Greenville, Ohio and the city of Detroit. In the end, these stories of hardship, struggle, joy, and sadness will be placed into a work of fiction within a form that everyone can connect to and understand no matter location, ethnicity, or beliefs.
